11  Direct-Drive and Fast-Ignition Workshop

Roma, 6-8 May 2013

The Direct Drive and Fast Ignition Workshop provides a unique opportunity for a group of European and overseas scientists working in theory and simulation of inertial confinement fusion to present and discuss their latest work in an informal atmosphere.

The meeting also addresses prospective methods for producing electron and ion beams with parameters suitable for fast ignition as well as alternate ignition methods like shock ignition. Novel experiments in the field are also presented by leading experimentalists. Benchmarking of simulation codes against experiments and the use of codes in the design and interpretation of experiments are extensively discussed.

Representatives of leading laser user facilities will illustrate the facilities and opportunities for new experiments.

Previous meetings in this series were held annually from 2003, in Paris, Rome, Toledo, Bordeaux, Madrid, Lisbon, Prague, London, Bruyeres-le-Chatel and Prague (in 2012).

The meeting will be held at the Auletta del Chiostro di San Pietro in Vincoli (a Renassaince Cloister), at the headquarters of Facoltà di Ingegneria, Università di Roma “La Sapienza”, in the centre of Rome, adjacent to the Church of S. Pietro in Vincoli (hosting Michelangelo’s Moses), near to Colosseo.
